ROCHESTER - The funeral for Ronald F. "Big Book Ron" Deitschman will be 1 p.m. Monday at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Schill officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Deitschman, 70, of Rochester, died Thursday (Aug. 4, 2005) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
He was born Nov. 26, 1934 in Rochester. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1952 and then attended Mankato State College graduating with a degree in Business Administration and Economics in 1957. On Dec. 31, 1960, he married Sharon Martinson in Rothsay, Minn., they were later divorced. He served in the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1963 with the Rank of Seargeant. He worked for Libby, McNiell, and Libby for 18 1/2 years, first in Rochester and then at the corporate office in Chicago. He returned to Rochester and became active in Alcoholics Anonymous where he was known as "Big Book Ron". He founded new AA meetings and had served as a historian. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons Steve (Jane) of Spokane, Wash; David (Nina) of Waimanalo, Hawaii; and Mike (Angie) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his brother Gary (Connie) of Neenah, Wis.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel and one hour before the service at the church.
